Research Assistant I

Job Description:**

The Research Assistant I will
be responsible for performing cell, molecular, genetic and biochemical
experiments to address fundamental mechanisms of protein transport in
eukaryotic cells. The successful candidate will perform budding yeast strain
construction using molecular genetic methods to mutational test the role of
various factors in protein trafficking. The individual will also assist with
general lab duties and will work under the direct supervision of the principle
investigator and a senior postdoctoral fellow.

**Key Functions and Expected Performances** **:**

Perform research and collect data using
appropriate lab protocols and procedures.

Molecular cloning methods to clone genes,
introduce tags and produce mutations.

PCR-mediated gene disruption and genotyping of
Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Genetic crosses to produce genotypes of interest

Fluorescence microscopy and use of ImageJ to
quantify imaging data.

Electrophoresis and Western blots to probe
protein stability.

Immunoprecipitation and co-immunoprecipitation

Expression of recombinant proteins in E. coli.

Protein interaction studies using recombinant
proteins and proteins expressed in yeast.

Preparation of laboratory stocks, buffer reagents
and media.

Adherence to University safety protocols.

Maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Maintenance of laboratory stocks and inventory.

Presentation of research at laboratory meetings.

Maintenance of electronic records and hard copies
of data.

Assistance with training of new laboratory members as
skillset advances.

Prior experience in some of these methodologies
is strongly preferred and the lab will provide training as necessary.

**Qualifications** **:**

A Bachelor's degree with a major in the
Biological Sciences.
