**Job Summary:**



**Federally fundedPrincipal Investigator is searching for a qualified candidate that can assistwith grant & manuscript preparation as well as independently design &carry out highly sophisticated experiments. Candidates with electrophysiologyexpertise and a research background in neuroscience, specificallyhyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channel traffickingin epilepsy; gene therapy for treating depression; the use of high throughputscreening to determine chemical probes for treating depression; and developinga novel peptide therapeutic for treating depression will be considered. T** his
laboratory has multi-faceted approach, including electrophysiological,
biochemical, molecular biology tools and gene therapy regulation of
voltage-gated ion channels and how regulation of these channels may play a role
in neuropsychiatric diseases such as epilepsy, autism and major depressive
disorder. **PI would prefer to havea candidate that has past mentoring experience with graduate students andpost-doctoral fellows in developing their research projects.**



**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:**




+ **Independently oversee research projectsand perform near to totally independent research.**

+ **Supervise, plan, design and implementresearch projects**

+ **Establish highly complex protocol(s);define data collection, evaluation and analysis procedures**

+ **Exercise discretion and independentjudgment to develop methods and procedures for operation of complexscientific equipment**

+ **Supervise set-up and operation ofvarious scientific experiments involving complex apparatus and equipment**

+ **Contribute to research so as to meritserving as author or co-author on research publications, etc.**

+ **Assist principal investigator in writingresearch grants and contract proposals**

+ **Assists PI in manuscript preparation forscientific journals.**

+ **Present research findings as needed**

+ **Responsible for plan and coordination ofliterature and library searches and data collection programs**

+ **Develop reports of results, graphs,charts, tables, etc. of research findings**

+ **Supervise writing, reviewing and editingof various materials for publication**

+ **Provide supervisory responsibility tostaff**

+ **Mentor and teach graduate students and post-doctoralfellows in developing their projects and on specific techniques andprotocols.**

+ **Train and supervise technical staff,medical and graduate students**

+ **Provide technical guidance to students,post-doctoral fellows and faculty as required**

+ **May provide budget responsibility**

+ **Make recommendations to principalinvestigator regarding staff, supply and equipment needs for researchprojects**

+ **May monitor expenditures of funds**

+ **Maintain open communication betweendepartment and others**

+ **Open contact as needed with principalinvestigator, collaborating professionals, Purchasing, Human ResourceServices, Space and Facilities Planning, asset management personnel,Environmental Health and Safety, Institutional Review Board staff, administrativestaff relating to budget capabilities**

+ **Contact as required with sponsoringagencies and/or cooperating facilities (e.g. V.A.), collaboratingprofessionals and vendors**
